Diagnostic Challenges in Fava Bean Triggered G6PD Crisis

Limited English proficiency (LEP) affects many Canadians. Patients with LEP are at high risk of medical error, readmission, and increased length stay. We report on the case a 66-year-old male diagnosis glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency associated hemolysis, how language barrier affected his care. Using our as an example, we describe trends in literature inpatient setting, its effects patient care evidence surrounding use point interpretation. RésuméLa maîtrise limitée de l’anglais (MLA) touche nombreux Canadiens. Les patients ayant une MLA courent un risque élevé d’erreur médicale, réadmission et prolongation du séjour à l’hôpital. Nous faisons état cas d’un homme 66 ans qui reçu diagnostic d’hémolyse associée déficit en déshydrogénase (G-6-PD) la façon dont barrière linguistique nuit ses soins. En utilisant notre comme exemple, nous décrivons les tendances documentation sur milieu hospitalier, effets soins aux données probantes concernant l’utilisation l’interprétation au service.
